Bio
Born June 1980, Stevenage, Hertfordshire, Dubious lived with his parents
and 2 elder brothers in what was known at the time to be a very rough and
troublesome area. Despite his father working all the hours under the sun
and his mother also working part time, money was tight, and Dubious quickly
learned that life wasn’t going to be easy.
With his mother and father struggling to keep their head above water and
feeling like the world was already against him, Dubious soon found himself
self failing in school and looking to the neighbourhood as his playground.
Hanging out with drug dealers, thugs and petty thieves Dubious quickly
become accustomed to trouble.
“Regardless of day or time, you could guarantee something was always
going on,” he says. “Whether it be people fighting over silly sh*t,
Drug dealers supplying to raggedy down and out drug fiends with nothing
left to loose, or people coming to the neighbourhood to sell stuff they had
just robbed from someone else’s house. It was crazy. They even had a
patrol car making regular routine checks. Although amongst all the Mayhem,
Crime, GTA’s and regular disturbances it was one of the places I felt
most safe. There was a certain atmosphere about it. Everybody looked out
for each other, but if you stepped over the line even once, that was it.
You’d definitely know about it.”
Little did Dubious know that the Neighbourhood that drew him into that
“Stereo Typical” lifestyle would be the very same place to get him out.
At just aged 14 someone from whom Dubious classed as a very close friend
was arrested and sent to prison for car theft. It was at this stage Dubious
realised that if he continued going the way he was going, he too would end
up serving a sentence.
“It was f*cked up. I was only 14 and at the time I didn’t truly realise
the consequences of my actions. My friend was older than I was. He used to
look after me, made sure no one was f*cking with me and that I had enough
money to buy a packet of cigarettes.” Dubious laughs quickly reminiscing
on the past. “I used to think I was the sh*t, bowling around with older
people, getting picked up from school in stolen cars, fearing nothing or no
one, until all that sh*t happened of course. That’s when I got the
biggest wakeup call of my life. It was then I decided I would try and make
something of my life."
After bouncing back forth between pirate radio, open mic sessions and run
down venues Dubious decided to take his music to the next level and began
recording his EP in 2007.
Now with the release of 'Daddies Little Soldier' a track taken from the EP
Dubious is already being labelled one of the hottest up and coming artists
of 2008, Dubious, with both his direct and somewhat controversial lyrics
has all the ingredients to take him to the next level. I’m certain you
can expect see and hear more from him in the up and coming months
