Tray Pound

The Home of Hip Hop has done it again. In the early 70’s the world was not so different then, we were at war as we are now, many folk couldn’t make ends meet, and the voices of the streets were talking and through their words of poetry Hip Hop was born, the place of it’s birth, The Bronx. Now in the year two thousand and eight, The Bronx has forged another come back of the poetic prodigy, so we gladly present to you BX very own Tray Pound “Grandma’s Grandson”.

On June 7th 1983, a child was born Tracy “Tray Pound” Steward Jr. destined for greatness and a calling to the game of hip hop, Tracy would suffer the plight of many young black boys before he could reach prominence. He would be born to drug abusing parents, poverty riddled streets, and the lack of educational support from his peers and surroundings. No one said life would be easy, but to walk a day in the life of Tray Pound you would see why he has the passion for Hip Hop, it is his way of telling his story (History).

Through Tray Pound’s tragic beginnings, a blessing would emerge, Leonilda Castro would be that blessing. Tray Pound’s Grandmother would raise him and turn this boy into a man, hence the title of Tray Pound’s album “Grandma’s Grandson” A Bronx tale. Tray Pound was born and raised in Bronxdale housing projects in the Sound view section of the Bronx. Bronxdale is the home of the infamous black spades and one of hip hops Pioneer Deejay’s, King DJ Mario (RIP).Tray Pound dedicates his life and legacy to his Grandmother, she is the reason for his being. She is his passion, his obsession, and his I will not relent attitude. His eyes glow when he speaks of her and his raspy voice cracks with pain, for she has left this place and now watches him from above.

Tray Pound the artist, is hip hop’s answer to a new beginning. Tray Pound is a hip hop prodigy, with his laid back style, lyrical concepts and slick metaphors, he is a poetic icon and this story telling genius will captivate ears and souls of men and women young and old black and white and all those in between, with his array of lyrical banter, prosaic flow, raspy vocals, hip hop flare and a profound delivery all his own. Tray Pound is hip hop at its’ best and Grandma’s Grandson the album will display the energy and true essence of hip hop tradition, with songs such as “Turn It Up” an instant club banger, featuring Tray Pounds up tempo flow one of his many deliveries, “Just Happen To Rap”, flow so crazy, beat so sick standing still would be a chore, “The Gimmicks Over” a homage to real hip hop, and “Grandma’s Grandson” title track, a tribute to his Grandmother who he will always cherish. This 20 track album delivers straight through from top to bottom, the word Classic comes to mind, and it has something for everyone. “Welcome Home Hip Hop”
