Bio
Born in Beverly Hills, Ca. raised in Brooklyn, NY. with his west indian
grandparents, MaximumtheLyricist recognized his gift for word play at an
early age. It was in elementary school that fellow students began to point
out that his lyrics stood out above others during lunch time battles. It
was when he entered high school at Samuel J. Tilden, that he realized how
big an impact words infused by Hip Hop and its culture could have.
Maximum grew up in what so far has been considered hip hop's prime. He
studied and dissected the lyrics of the Hip Hop greats of his generation
such as: Notorious BIG, 2Pac Shakur, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Common, etc... He
recognized their genius, originality, and authenticity.
Feeling rejected by his mother for leaving him with his grandparents at 5
months old, in order to start a new family with a man that didn't want him,
always bothered him. He turned to writing down lyrics in order to express
feelings that he did not know how to verbalize.
Although he would see his mother on occasion, he never understood why she
made the choices that she made. He never understood how a mother could
leave her first born, and just start over with a new family and not include
him. After a while, it didn't matter anymore. He numbed himself to her and
the pain that her absence left.
Then one day when he was 15 years old, he received a phone call that
changed his life. His mother, who worked as a flight attendant for TWA, was
on flight 800. The plane crashed shortly after take off, off the coast of
Long Island, and there were no survivors. She wasn't supposed to have been
working that day, but was doing a favor for a friend by working her
shift.
Maximum was torn to pieces. He would never get the opportunity to foster a
real relationship with his mother. He would never get the opportunity to
tell her that he forgave her for her choices. He would never get the
opportunity to tell her that in spight of everything, that he loved her.
He was filled with anger and guilt for having an argument with her the day
before she died. He was also perplexed by the overwhelming amount of love
that he had for her, even though she wasn't a constant figure in his
life.
He sank into a devastating depression, where he lashed out against the
world and abandoned music for a few years. After a while, he realized that
in order to move on with his life, he would have to let go of the past. He
once again turned to music as a means to get out his frustrations. Maximum
realized that he couldn't just bury his talent. He was a student of Hip
Hop, partially raised by hip hop.
Now as a lyricist, Maximum is creating buzz all around New York and the
East Coast. He is soon to be an international phenomenon. Maximum is more
than hype. He has substance. He doesn't fall into the category of many
rappers who don't know who they are, and claim to be something they are
not. In his music, MaximumtheLyricist gives us his perspective on life. He
realizes that life is made up of many elements, and his music gives us
deeper insight into his journey within.
